McAdam Freud, Jane

McAdam Freud, Jane McAdam Freud, Jane McAdam Freud, Jane
These works are concerned with ideas about time, repetition and contradiction. They contemplate notions of being in the world as a personal, psychodynamic experience as contrasted with the consuming power of nature. In one of the works shown here called TAKEN, the title refers to the clay itself which has been taken from the earth. The word 'taken' reads 'nekat' translating in phonetic Latin to mean 'it kills'. This dual concept refers both to the process of firing the clay by removing the water and to the process of life - which depends on water. One cannot have one without the other ie life without death so in that sense 'it kills' that is 'life kills' as a natural process. I was inspired by the mummified cat I saw at the British Museum and it is represented in copper tube sitting on the clay wall.
