Dorian Aroyo worked for many years in architects’ offices and when redundancy suddenly struck in the early 90’s and he seized the moment to realise an ambition held from childhood: to devote his time to developing his art. As a committed campaigner for gay rights, Dorian worked throughout the ‘70’s as a volunteer with Icebreakers, offering help and advice to gay people who were struggling to come out. This interest continues to be reflected in his work. After taking Adult Education classes, he was invited to show his work locally in Marylebone and later on in public galleries such as the Menier Chocolate Factory. He continues to exhibit both locally and in public galleries and is delighted to have been invited to take part in “Pride in the House” at Lauderdale House. Here he requisitions the icon from the establishment and makes it into the sacred mask of his secular saint or martyr.
