Visual Arts,
After my studies in contemporary dance in Berlin, I started working and engaging more with the idea and concept of time and space within the lens based media and context. In October 06 I decided to move to London and to follow my studies in the field of fine art, focusing on photography, video/film, installation and performance.
My work addresses issues of loss and “placelessness”, concerning identity and culture in contemporary western society. Being lost in the social framework of the techno-era is reflected in the personification of a contemporary fugitive: a fugitive due to the global movement and communication of contemporary and future society, finding himself in a state of displacement, in a kind of no-man’s land between virtuality and reality. His human presence experiences no real dimension, but rather a symbolic one and reinforces in the same way the feeling of being lost as well as the question of identity, which as well suggests a possibility of redefinition and progress.
For my works I like to choose places and landscapes which allow no cultural or historical identifications as such, therefore a sense of nowhere and yet everywhere can arise. These spaces stand for a passage, an in-between space, which connects the subconscious with the conscious, the virtual with a seemingly existing space. Therefore I like to look at the “outdoor” space as a timeless, eternal space, whereas the “indoor” space reflects a more private and intimate space.
Depending on the project I mostly choose video/film and performance as media. I am interested in the cinematic (time based) experience of the viewer with the work displayed in a gallery space as opposed to the live performance in pubblic spaces or the theater.
Minimal aesthetic and the absence of a narrative is a predominant feature in my work and provides a link between the video/film works and the performance works...
