A., Tonny A., Tonny
Whether, it’s a solo performance or a theatre production, I see my work as a diary that depicts the contradictory emotions I built up from my life experiences – past and present – in a permanent public display. Experimental, physical and personal, my solo performances reflect on this ongoing journey into the contradictions I perceive of my body, my sexuality, ethnic heritage and my cultural identity. Through my productions I explore the impact of History on the dysfunctions of our communities and the changes within our moral standards. Often my projects ponder whether past political events, cultural movements or late intellectual figures are still relevant to our individual reality and how they keep us connected to our personal history or they have lost their power of informing our present, by becoming national myths. My main aim is to make work that challenges my intellectual views and physical boundaries while still being able to provoke a debate with my audience, to question its opinion about aesthetic, morals and society and so to encourage it to reflect on its own beliefs.
