Ellerton, Cimeon

Ellerton, Cimeon
Cimeon is a composer working to break down traditional genre boundaries. He collaborates regularly with other artists/art forms and has a particular interest in contemporary dance and spoken word.

He graduated from Trinity College of Music in 2005 and is currently completing a Masters at Guildhall School of Music & Drama. He is interested not only with the contemporary classical scene, but nearly all forms of new music - from free improvisation to drum & bass. All of these influences are audible in his writing, whether that be sampled drum breaks in a classical piece or serial techniques in a club tune.

An interest in the work of electronic/club music producers inspired him to set up the London Breakbeat Orchestra (LBO). As Artistic Direcctor and conductor of this 30-piece urban music orchestra, he has developed a reputation as one of the most exciting new composer/producers to emerge from the London underground.

His work with Halal Kebab Hut (a mixture of free improvisation and performance art) has led him to perform alongside other artists who cross the classical/pop divide such as Mira Calix (Warp Records) at Sonorities International Electronic Music Festival. Cimeon prides himself on reaching audiences normally disassociated from the contemporary classical scene.

He recently recorded his orchestral works for BBC Radio 1 at Maida Vale Studios and looks forward to the upcoming recording of his first album.
