The Kala Chethena Kathakali Company

We specialise in making classical Kathakali from south India accessible to all through workshops, performances and exhibitions led by Kathakali experts.

The Kala Chethena Kathakali Company was established in 1987 to increase awareness of Kathakali and Asian theatre in the UK and internationally.

We provide practical workshops and performances exploring and showing the skills of a Kathakali actor - facial expressions, sign language [Mudras], body movements and characters.

We have produced two DVDs that provide access to the Kathakali sign language [Mudras] for teachers, students and professionals to understand this complex 4,000 year old sign language.

In 2009 we are looking for schools, colleges and theatres who would like to book Kathakali as part of our YEAR OF EDUCATION.
