FREE LECTURE/PRESENTATION MAY 15th AND 22nd
An interactive stage design exhibition from the V&A Theatre Collection. This exhibition draws on the Oliver Messel Archives and it is suitable for school groups, families and adults alike.

Thomas Messel, who is Oliver Messel's nephew, will talk about Oliver Messel's architecture and interior decoration and explain the influence of his background and the Messel family on his work. Keith Lodwick from the V&A Theatre Collections will talk about Messel’s film work. Both presentations will include slides and film clips from Romeo and Juliet (1936), The Queen of Spades (1949) and Suddenly Last Summer (1959).

Keith trained as a set and costume designer at Central School of Speech and Drama and has designed many productions including Sweeney Todd (UK Tour), The Lady of the House of Love (BAC), The Rest of the World
(Landor Theatre), A...My Name is Alice (Bridewell) and the award winning The Bloody Chamber(Edinburgh festival and tour).

On Thursday May 22nd, there will be a lecture/presentation by Kieron Docherty, Head of Production at the English National Opera. Kieron will touch on Messel’s work and his own, on many successful productions all over the world.

Both talks will be followed by Q&A sessions and refreshments will be provided.
