Jonathan is a freelance theatre director and playwright with fifteen years of experience on the London Fringe circuit. A graduate of Rose Bruford College, he was previously Artistic Director at the Colour House Theatre in Wimbledon, and co-Artistic Director at the Brockley Jack Theatre. As one half of the Brothers Kaufman writing/producing team, he has directed, co-written and produced 17 original musical plays for children.

In addition the Brothers’ original devised musical, School Ties, was a critics’ favourite at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2003 and 2005. His other productions include Proper Red Stuff: Deconstructing Jack the Ripper (Brockley Jack), the devised plays Stan & Ollie (Brockley Jack) and Groovy Times (Tabard Theatre, Time Out critics’ choice 1998), as well as A Doll’s House, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, The Dumb Waiter and original adaptations of A Christmas Carol, Dracula and Frankenstein. He is an experienced drama workshop leader and teacher, and an accomplished writer of fiction. He currently runs two writers’ workshops at Kirkdale Bookshop, Sydenham.
