The exhibition 'Free Words' is being held from the 16th to 28th July in Mayfair library, 25 South Audley Street W1. 11am - 7pm Monday to Friday 10.30 - 2pm Saturday It is the first exhibition to be held in the library space and is particularly appropriate given it is the National Year of Reading. 'Free words' explores the censored word, printed matter and use of language as means of expression, through the interpretations of four artists: Marisol Cavia Sumer Erek Marko Stepanov Katie Sollohub Works will include 'Singing for Freedom' (200 origami birds made from paper that has printed on it the list of Index Librorum Prohibitorum (Index of forbidden books) by the Catholic Church from 1547 to 1949) by Marisol Cavia, Katie Sollohub's 'Vane' series, Marko Stepanovs ' Speakers' and Sumer Erek will be exhibiting part of his newspaper house: http://www.gulbenkian.org.uk/news/2008/the-newspaper-house |
