Retpen, Marie

Marie Retpen is a glass designer and maker creating work that precautious balances between sculpture and design.

Through her making Marie is constantly developing new ways to mould the glass using the materials fluidity and durability combined with blowing into or onto materials such as paper and clay to create shapes. The result is curious objects and products with qualities reminding of other materials like fabric, rubber or ceramics and only by looking closely or touching the piece the real nature of the material revels.
This element of surprise and interaction is what makes her pieces, whether it is a functional tumbler or a sculptural object intriguing and a great talking point in any environment
