Music and dance is taught at beginners’ and diploma level during the three terms of the academic year. Group and individual tuition is taught in a 3-year diploma and 2-year post-diploma course in Bengali music, Karnatic and Hindustani vocal music, harmonium, vina, sitar, violin, mridangam and tabla as well as in Kathak and Bharatnatyam dance forms. Non-diploma classes on the disciplines mentioned are offered through workshops, lectures and demonstrations. In addition the Bhavan also offers a 4-year BMus Degree in Indian Classical Music in collaboration with Trinity College of Music. Performances by world renowned artists are given throughout the year in the 300-seat Mountbatten Auditorium and a bookshop and membership is available offering discounts on tickets.
