The work is derived from the body, often the skin as it is full of paradoxes, (interiority and exteriority, biological and cultural being, compliant to medical science yet a tight and unyielding symbol, a screen and bearer of information).
The paintings derive from a particular area which is magnified to a scale where the surface becomes a series of abstract lines, shapes and colour, delineating an unknown body landscape, both physically intimate and distanced from the viewer.
Paint and painterly devices are utilized in the production of alternative readings, devices such as; colour, fragmentation, use of scale, surface finish. Their use disrupts the historical idealisation of the female form exploring its insufficient representation by using a language of closeness and interiority.
Magnification speaks of intense scrutiny and is full of questions on distance and closeness and knowing.
