Save Alfred Hitchcock`s Films

The BFI is promoting a campaign to fundraise for the re-mastering of several of director Alfred Hitchcock`s early films.Would the director approve?
When the suggestion was once mooted to him (as an historical possibility) his response was negative as he believed it would interfere with the accuracy.
Does this put paid to his general theorem: it`s only a movie?
Perhaps. Perhaps not.
Having seen the re-mastering by the BFI of David Lean`s exquisite bxw film `Oliver Twist` I can only argue against re-mastering of Alfred Hitchcock films. Firstly, the BFI did a lousy job...very American...very whitewash....and secondly, as Hitchcock said it goes against the spirit of the original.
So do we want moles and warts and scars?
Yes.
Sandra Shevey interviewed director Alfred Hitchcock in 1972 and runs a walk around his London film locations.
