Simons, Mark


A graduate of St Martins School of Art, Mark Simons connectional art examines contemporary ethical dilemmas. Hatoum, Wearing and Viola are some of the artists that have influenced his work. Working in a variety of different media his latest series is about consumption. He looks at the stages of consumption and our attitudes towards them. It includes works such as "Fattener, a manufactured piece of farming machinery (galvanized steel) designed to fatten babies.

"Unnamed" is another work in the series, a video a cattle truck is followed on its way to the market, however, the produce in this instance is not what most people expect.

Simons is currently working on a video installation that will try to challenge people's own perceptions of themselves.
