Armet
Armet Francis, one of the UK's top Black photographers, was born in Jamaica in 1945. After arriving in the UK in 1955, he worked a number of jobs before pursuing photography as his career; his work includes photography in the areas of advertising, fashion, documentary, and educational work in anti-racism and oral history. In 1969 he embarked upon a personal odyssey that resulted in 'The Black Triangle', a social documentary collection bringing together the experiences of the people of the African Diaspora. This was celebrated in 1984 with a book of the same name and an exhibition that toured London and visited Birmingham, Bradford, Manchester, and Atlanta. The project continued with the exhibition and book 'Children of the Black Triangle' in 1988. Since his first exhibition 'No Big Ting' appeared in 1969 at the Commonwealth Institute in London, Armet,s work has been exhibited in Jamaica, Nigeria, the US and UK, and has also appeared on the BBC and on Channel 4, in IPC Magazines, Time Magazine, the Sunday Times and West Africa Magazine.
