Brian Hayes-Carnival Photographs, Mas on the Road I grew up in North Kensington, an Afro Caribbean from Grenada and member number 96 of the notorious youth club The Metro, where I first met photography. My project is ongoing, it began in 1971 and it remains independent and is my own personal view. My entire work is shot on the street without special access. There is no date in my calendar, which can rival carnival day. The project has become my costume on carnival day so I play take a great photo today. The day after carnival is always disappointing, its over, another 364 days to go and the negative news reports which surround carnival, that I always seem to misunderstand.
