Bamidele, Sosimi

Dele Sosimi has a faultless Afrobeat pedigree, beginning with his seven and a half years in Fela Kuti's Egypt 80 band (1979-1986) touring all over Europe and the USA, recording on Fela's albums 'Army Arrangement' and 'ITT' amongst others.

Later, teaming up with Fela's son Femi to put together Positive Force in 1986 with roles as the keyboardist and musical director for 9 years, recording and producing two albums, 'No Cause For Alarm' and 'Mind Your Own Business'.

Moving to London in 1995 and forming a new group has resulted in projects reflecting London's multicultural environment, with a strong influence of jazz and shades of deep funk and latin music, but all underpinned by the heavy grooves of afrobeat's Yoruba rhythms with Dele's vocals very strongly in the afrobeat tradition. The result is the next phase of Afrobeat, at a time when little else in the genre appears to be extending the horizons.

Dele Sosimi is the Afrobeat Ambassador in London and aims to continue to encourage and teach up and coming musicians this genre of music please visit the website for more details.
