Dear, Samantha

After completing my degree in Fine Art at Cleveland College of Art and Design and a subsequent fellowship award from the Northern Print Studios in Newcastle, I moved to London where I now work from a studio just off Kilburn Lane. I have been exhibiting regularly for 8 years and work in paint, print and theatre design. Artists of inspiration to me are Paula Rego, Ana Maria Pacheco, Craigie Aitchison and Rembrandt van Rijn. I make paintings of half imagined, half remembered places which take the viewer through a hidden interior where signs of absence and presence collide. I am inspired by travel and exploration of spaces and places this can be buildings and landscapes. I document the places that I visit by drawing with pencil, charcoal, and ink and when I return to the studio I will continue with further drawings with some printmaking to begin to abstract the images and memories. When I feel that I have a composition formulated I will begin to start painting and will uses a variety of different materials from oil on canvas to screen printing on metal. I also undertake art workshops with children and have worked with 5-13 year olds. I have worked in partnership with theatre companies, Youth Offending Teams and private galleries.
