Lourson, Laurent
I make pictures with the letters of words, Christian names or quotations. My first project was based on a French play performed in English at the French Institute, South Kensington, in 1991. My second project, in 1993, celebrated Wilfred Owens's centenary. About 20 years one-one offs and twelve linocut prints were widely exhibited, in countries such as France and Canada. I got involved with children (8-10 years old) from Bordeaux and Nova Scotia (Acadians) and encouraged them to create their own images (called Calligrams). My third project based on French plays by the same writer, went to Paris, Bordeaux and Canada. It is now in Switzerland, associated with graphism but expands imaginations & style beyond a purely technical discipline. I based it on Arabic and Celtic patterns. It could become popular through very individual style, if there were people who would apply themselves to it. Green & Stone in King's Road sell my Wilfred Owen sextet, & cards based on some linocut prints.
