Lugic, Belma
Belma Lugic (b.1966 in Bosnia) is a sculptor, graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2000. She moved to London in 1992 because of the civil war. Through her work, she has been exploring the paradoxical condition of loss and renewal. The relationship between acid-metal, plaster-wool, rope-water are some of the materials she particularly chooses to work with. On surfaces of her works (car, plaster boards, metal sheets), she draws patterns borrowed from wallpaper design. In her work Belma tries to reveal intimate spaces by bringing together remains and future hopes. Her most recent shows include, "Material Spaces", Tullie House, Carlisle. "Leave To Remain", BBC London and "Arcadia In The City", Marble Hill House, London. In her new work she wants to move away from loss and exile. Her new work is titled, 'Rehabilitation'. Belma works as a freelance art workshop leader with HAFAD and ACAVA. Recent workshops being "Speak up" (making banners), "Masbro Carnival" (making giant puppets), "Gifted Childrens Workshop" (making sculptures from memories). She is also an experienced visual merchandiser.
