Jefferson-Lewis, Gerard

I am a photojournalist, portrait and fine art photographer who took up photography in 1998 after being encouraged to do so by my photography tutors at Westminster College. I completed City & Guilds Certificates in Photography and gained a distinction at all levels. Whilst a student photojournalist I was awarded the student of the year award for a photostory on Dean City Farm in South London, which helps disadvantaged inner city children prepare for life. My work is heavily influenced by the great Photo Journalists such as Henri Cartier-Bresson and Andre Kertesz. I want to help humanity understand itself and believe that the photo story is the most powerful tool in journalism. My most beautiful and moving works are from my Monastic Life in Ireland series, whereby I documented Monks living their lives in Monasteries in Ireland for Cara Magazine (Aer Lingus in-flight). This later became an exhibition, in Dublin in 2001. I am currently documenting life on the waterways of England with Britain's top rowing club. The project is entitled "River Kings" Other projects include : "Le Saison de Jardan de Luxembourg" another two year documentary in B&W, for which I am seeking sponsors for a book.
