Dass, Alice

I originally studied textile art and design at Goldsmith's College, London in the mid 1960's, however, for the past 15 years my concerns have been with the process of painting. Since 1996 I have been a resident artist at Kew Studio, and, working in this environment my work has veered inexorably towards nature, and specifically plant forms. Pencil studies are magnified and distilled into an abstraction. Vivid colour and the use of accidental forces, arising from the mixing of various media, are worked up to establish my emotional response to these organic forms. I have suffered from progressive MS for some years, and belong to a goup of artists with MS, namely Enable Artists. As my condition deteriorates I am becoming confined to a much smaller format, one where I can work from my chair. I have embarked on illustration, and am making my own series of books containing poems and illustrations based on my adventures travelling around the world.
