I’m a performance maker, freelance director and curator. My practice, both as a solo artist and theatre director, is informed by my professional and academic background: indeed, I studied History & Politics, graduating with a PhD in Diplomatic History and until 2005 I worked as freelance writer and broadcast reporter in Eastern Europe, Belgium and London. My work is interdisciplinary, fusing classic poetry with movement and multimedia. Half-way between Physical and Dance theatre, my productions aim to revisit obscure historical eras to celebrate the present while my solo performances, often intuitive and expressive, explore the nature(s) of the relation between physicality and sexual, cultural or sexual identity. ..

Many of his stories come from Continental Africa, but Amu is always building bridges and absorbing new stories from other countries. Amu draws no distinction between his stories, paintings, music and dance: they all form part of a response to and understanding of the environment around us.
