Kancelik, Melih
Melih Kancelik was born in Izmir, Turkey. He became interested in cinema as a young child and later developed this interest by attending a number of lectures at the university’s cinema school in Izmir, where he also established various productive relationships.

He then spent the next seven years in the Turkish film industry working on a number of successful films as deputy actor, assistant producer and assistant director

During this time, in 1989, he wrote and directed his first award winning short film ‘Yasam Ustune Bir Deneme’ (An Experiment On Life).

In 1992 Melih then wrote and directed his second award winning short ‘Yolculuk’ (The Journey), which won him first prize at the 4th Ankara Film Festival. ‘Yolculuk’ was subsequently invited to the 39th Oberhausen International Short Film Festival and accredited at the 18th Mons International Short Film Festival.

Melih has been living in the UK since 1996. He has been developing his scripts and has shot two short films. At the start of 2006 he began shooting a documentary based in East London about a Cypriot man whose sweet shop doubles up as a small movie museum. At the moment he is in pre production for “Damardan Malakia”, a Turkish feature written by himself and due to be shot in London towards the end of 2006.
