Cobb, Nicholas
In the work, one is presented with reconstructions made from the detritus of urban life - for example various receptacles like two-pint plastic milk bottles crudely shaped into figures. The viewer brings their sophisticated visual knowledge to bear upon familiar everyday scenes and gestures while simultaneously recognising the staged nature, the artifice, of the photographs.
To adopt the personna of a street photographer can imply parody and does indeed inform part of my approach. The genre is perceived in some quarters as exhausted and that status can be attractive to an artist seeking to find something new to say with imagery.
