THORN, LEAH

I am a spoken word poet and workshop facilitator, known for my passion, my compassion and my ability to create safe spaces in which participants take risks and try out new skills.

My workshops fuse creative writing, self-exploration and performance skills, on issues such as identity, diversity and empowerment. They invariably end in a performance/workshare and/or an anthology.

Recent groups with whom I have worked include young women who are sex workers, Key Stage 1 pupils, prisoners and older women. I also lead training sessions for teachers, psychiatric nurses, therapists and dementia care workers to enable them to use spoken word poetry as a tool.

I work in diverse settings such as museums, galleries, libraries, primary & secondary schools, prisons and psychiatric hospitals. I frequently work in collaboration with artists, across cultures as well as across art-forms
