Featured Directory Entry

Marks, Janet
I am a director, deviser and facilitator (groups and individuals). Currently running Improvisation classes, Radio Drama, Creative Drama with disabled people. I am also a performance / voice coach and have long experience in Role-Play training. I am interested in how we communicate physically, verbally and emotionally and in how spontaneous improvisation allows us to access material that may often be overlooked or rejected.

Brent Dance Month 2009

Brent Dance Month - so much dance you won’t know what to choose first! Brent Dance Month will be launched at Brent Respect Festival on Sunday 5 July in the Momentum Dance tent, packed full of dance and live music. Each session starts with a demonstration and then you can join in.

Pick up a Brent Dance Month Programme from Brent Libraries and One Stop Shops, or download one from http://www.brent.gov/festivals for all the exciting activities happening from the beginning of June.

What better time to dust of your dancing shoes and boogie, ballet or bop your way throughout the summer! You might find you want to keep on dancing and sign up for more classes throughout the year.

The Brent Dance Month Calendar seeks to promote Brent’s rich diversity and cultural heritage through dance and the arts. This is a wonderful opportunity to get people to take part in a wide range of high quality dance within Brent. This can be for fun, to develop skills, gain an understanding of new dance forms, or just to keep fit.

Open2Dance

open2dance

Camden and Islington have teamed up to produce a dance festival called Open2Dance. The festival will showcase a series of dance workshops, events and shows across Camden and Islington. The dance festival aims to encourage Camden and Islington residents to get fit, have fun and enjoy some spectacular dance shows..

The Open2Dance festival will feature a variety of dance shows showcasing both emerging talent and celebrated productions, many of which are free or very cheap to attend. The festival features an all male ballroom troupe, family fun days, dance theatre, wheelchair ballroom and tango in the park to name but a few, all of which are taking place at community centres and theatres across Camden and Islington.

The festival will also bring new dance shows by renowned artists into the community. After a long stint at the Barbican, Boy Blue will be performing a new commission at The Shaw Theatre. The Lion and Unicorn Theatre, Kentish Town, will be hosting performances from Ballet Black as well as Dance Theatre, featuring film by Tal Rosner and Antonia Franceshi. Many of the Open2Dance festival events will also form part of the Open Weekend celebrations (from the 24 – 26 July), which mark the start of the three year countdown to the London 2012 Olympic and the Paralympic Games.

If you would like to attend any of the events or require further information visit www.camden.gov.uk/open2dance ,  or contact us at arts.tourism@camden.gov.uk or 020 7974 1647.

London 2012 Open Weekend

Dates: 24 to 26 July 2009
You don't have to wait until 2012 to be part of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. London 2012 is already encouraging and inspiring people to open up and join in, through the London 2012 Open Weekend.

Take advantage of the PR and marketing support on offer from London 2012 for your events by taking part in the Open Weekend - a platform for culture, sport, and sustainability initiatives across the whole of the UK.

Your organisation can use the Open Weekend to:
• create and / or promote events taking place over 24 to 26 July;
• launch up-and-coming activities;
• profile any plans or forthcoming projects for London 2012;
• initiate new activity for the lead up to London 2012;
• attract new audiences and visitors.

Last year's Open Weekend featured 655 events around the UK including festivals, arts performances, free films, music performances, workshops... to name just a few!

The organisisers are looking for culture, sport, and environment activities which demonstrate examples of the Olympic and Paralympic values in action. These values are respect, excellence, friendship, courage, determination, inspiration and equality.

The call for projects, events and activities is now open. To find out more or to register your event, go to www.london2012.com/openweekend
